GET INVOLVED IN THE HIGH BRIDGE PROJECT

Come out and enjoy Highbridge Parks. Below are just a few of the ways to get involved. Click on any link to get more information:
  • The High Bridge Coalition
This alliance of public agencies and nonprofit organizations are leading a campaign to restore the High Bridge and reopen it to the public. The Coalition believes this pedestrian bridge, a city and national landmark, can have a new life as a great public space and greenway link. www.thehighbridge.org

  • Community Visioning
At visioning meetings, community members come together to brainstorm ways to achieve what they envision for The High Bridge and their communities

  • Community Programs
Catalyst supports many community led and designed programs. This includes basketball tournaments, neighborhood health fairs and holiday events. New events are always welcome.

  • Restoration and Volunteer Opportunities
There are frequent planting, trail clearing and restoration projects in both Highbridge Parks and along the Harlem River.

  • Natural Areas Stewardship Training
Partnerships for Parks and Natural Resource Group offer workshops that train participants about local plant species and ecology. All participants will receive free stewardship supplies and be permitted as Volunteer Stewards, able to work in the field on their own and lead groups in basic restoration work.

  • High Bridge Water Tower Tours
Led by the Urban Park Rangers, these regular tours tell the history of the High Bridge and offer spectacular views of the city.

  • Free Concerts, Puppet Shows, and Recreational Programs
Please join us in the parks this summer for free concerts, children’s shows, dance performances, and sports activities offered by City Parks Foundation.

  • High Bridge in a Box
To introduce the High Bridge and its history to elementary school children, the High Bridge Coalition created "High Bridge in a Box" for teachers. This is tool for teaching students about the bridge and the New York City water supply system includes maps of the water supply system, a model of a working water tower, water quality testing supplies, a history timeline, and a pen pal project to unite upstate and downstate kids. "High Bridge in a Box" materials will soon be available online at www.thehighbridge.org.

  • The Highbridge Recreation Center
Free classes and recreational activities are offered, including Adult Education, Capoiera and After-School Programs.
