Community
Visioning Sessions
In a series of community visioning meetings, the
Bronx and Manhattan Highbridge communities
met, first separately and then as a united group. Three priorities were identified by both communities over the course of the meetings:
1) Increasing park programming and use.
2) Linking the Bronx and Manhattan
communities.
3) Re-opening the High Bridge.

New Programming
Parks on both sides of the High Bridge have become centers for community programs. In the Bronx, the "Take Care of Highbridge" health fair, produced by Samaritan Village and other local partners, returned for its 2nd year, drawing more than 300 residents. Manhattan's Highbridge Park featured local events like Hike the Heights with CLIMB, Danza Washington Heights, Uptown Treasures, and the High Bridge Basketball Classic, as well as citywide programs including CityParks Concerts and openhousenewyork.

Physical
Investments
Investment in the High Bridge and Highbridge Parks is steadly increasing.
Congressman Jose Serrano secured $5,000,000 in
federal funds for restoration of the High Bridge. Other improvements are planned for the historic gatehouses, waterfront parks on the Bronx side, and to stairs and trails on the Manhattan side of the bridge.
