IN THE ASTORIA/LIC WATERFRONT PARKS
The Catalyst Program in the Astoria
Waterfront and its partners are involved in many ongoing projects.
- Astoria/LIC Waterfront Parks
Monthly Community Meetings
Every month people from the community, including organizations,
residents and representatives gather to develop a vision for the
waterfront parks, to network, plan events, and more. All are welcome -
please join us!
- Earth Day and Arbor Day
Mini-Grants
To promote active community participation in Astoria/LIC Waterfront
parks, the Astoria/LIC Catalyst Project offers mini-grants to support
Earth Day and Arbor Day activities. To see pictures from the first year

- Coastal Classroom
This new environmental education program offers free workshops in parks
along the waterfront. Coastal Classroom provides
young people and community members of all ages with opportunities to
experience the Long Island Sound watershed, including the East River,
and to explore the history and future preservation challenges for our

- Waterfront Parks Bicycle Tours
Join with neighbors and friends to tour the local waterfront parks and
proposed Queens East River Greenway. The bike tours are often led by
local individuals who have expertise in history, environment, arts, and
more.
- Free Canoeing at Hallets Cove
from the beach at Socrates Sculpture Park
To celebrate Earth Day 2005 Long Island City Community Boathouse (www.licboathouse.org) offered
free public canoeing in Hallets Cove from the beach at Socrates
Sculpture Park
(www.socratessculpturepark.org)
with the support of the Astoria/LIC Catalyst Project. Free public rides are offered on Sundays throughout spring, summer, and early fall.
- Free Concerts, Puppet Shows, and
Sports Programs:
This summer the Astoria and Long Island City Waterfront parks will play
host to many free concerts, children's shows, dance performances, and
sports activities offered by City Parks Foundation.
- Waterfront Technical Assistance
Project participants who want to learn more aspects of their waterfront
can work with PFP's Technical Assistance Program,
we are developing trainings and workshops with an emphasis on local
waterfronts and waterways to help you make the most of your waterfront.
